At Sportfit Shortbreak Care, we are dedicated to ensuring the training and development of all of our employees. We offer a 3 step plan for our employees:
- Teaching: Providing training through classroom delivered training, one-to-one supervisions and knowledge sharing, workshops for managers, observations and professional discussions on the job, and shadowing shifts.
- Assessing the success of learning: written coursework in the learner’s portfolio is followed by observations in the units by unit managers.
- Monitoring and Reassessing Competence: monitoring employees to ensure that they are continuing to demonstrate what they’ve learnt.
We are also dedicated to providing opportunities for the development of skills for our staff. Our in-house trainer holds all of the relevant competencies, knowledge and skills in the social care sector, and is able to transfer that knowledge extremely effectively.
The training we offer includes:
Our staff are required to undergo mandatory training in line with their job role. Mandatory training is comprised of legislative training, i.e. health and safety, or sector inspectorate training i.e. Care Quality Commission. Staff are also required to undertake mandatory training refresher courses.
Service User/Service Specific Training
This training is aimed specifically at the service users in our care. This means that our staff are able to provide the appropriate care packages necessary to suit each specific young person.
Core Training and Skills
This includes English, Maths, ICT, team work, problem solving, and continued learning. These skills allow our employees to work competently with young people, and provide the service users with the core knowledge needed to succeed in the adult world.
The Care Certificate
This is the start of an employee’s development journey at Sportfit. This programme caters to both care and non-care employees. This qualification covers the support worker’s roles and responsibilities, health and safety, Risk Assessment Management Planning (RAMP). COSHH, RIDDOR, lone working, management of stress, fire safety, infection prevention and control training, food hygiene, food nutrition and hydration, moving and handling, first aid at work training and shadow shifts.
Sportfit employees who desire to undertake training outside of that given at Sportfit are welcome to do so. The training must be relevant to their current job role and be discussed with a line manager.
QCF Qualifications and Assessments
We ensure that all of our employees have a specific learning pathway that incorporates both mandatory training and supports individual development. We feel like this assures that the young people in our care are given the best possible support from our staff. We partner with QCF providers and local colleges, which means that we are able to support staff to achieve the relevant qualifications necessary for their job role.
External Training Provision (New)
Sportfit are proud to announce that we’re offering fit for purpose learning and training programmes, designed to ensure that your workforce is trained in all areas of health and social care. The best part? These courses are given at your own workplace; this means that training is less disruptive than ever before!
Our Care Certificate Induction is comprised of a paper, testing your knowledge, that is marked by the trainer. This will then be attached to the certificate and sent back to you for filing. This is the personal copy that CQC or OFSTED will check as evidence of induction training. Course dependant, some certificates will be issued by awarding bodies. Your certificate will be valid for 3 years, with the exception of Manual Handling Animate / Manual Handling Inanimate which are 1 year certifications.
